Rotary Wing Air Ambulance Accreditation
The European Aero-Medical Institute accredits aero-medical providers performing transfers on rotary wing air ambulance aircraft. The Rotary Wing Air Ambulance category is divided into HEMS, Inter-Hospital Transport and SAR and contains a variety of medical endorsements to honor the various specializations and capabilities in this category.
Accreditation is valid for three years. Re-Accreditation is performed every three years.
Providers wanting to register to apply for Accreditation in the Rotary Wing Air Ambulance category must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- Sufficient operational experience / maturity
Operational experience includes a minimum of 2 years of aero-medical flight operation and/or a minimum of 250 medical flights performed
- Dedicated qualified personnel & infrastructure
Staff and infrastructure must be adequate for aero-medical operations
- Suitable Aircraft
The aircraft used – whether owned or in collaboration with an external AC provider – must be suitable to perform safe aero-medical transportation
If operational experience is not met by the provider applying for accreditation it is up to the Board to debate whether alternate eligibility criteria is sufficient.
Information considered by the Board includes:
- Proof of previous operational air ambulance capability or experience in air charter for aeromedical transport activity (for instance a merger or spin-off of prior activity).
- More than 150 completed medical flights
- Unequivocally positive references/letters of recommendation from two major clients such as:
- Medical assistance companies
- Government bodies
- Other accredited EURAMI programs
The program applying for an exempt for registration to Accreditation must present all three of the above criteria.
In addition to the dedicated Rotary Wing Air Ambulance Category the accredited company will be awarded Medical Endorsements in accordance with their specialization and capabilities. These Medical Endorsements are audited during the primary and re-accreditation audit and are assigned when the qualifying criteria is being met.
